hey, i’m shreyas!

I love to build things that just work.

I’m a high schooler at TJHSST in Northern Virginia. Outside school, I spend most of my time building robots, writing software, and figuring out why things aren’t working.

Here’s some of what I've been up to

FRC 8592 · Newton Squared

From an idea
to a working robot.

I lead mechanical build work for my robotics team: manufacturing parts, putting mechanisms together, fixing whatever the last match broke, and training students in the shop and at competition.

I’ve led intake and climber subsystems, worked in the pits at competitions at the regional, district, and international levels, and helped newer students learn their way around the shop. I love seeing something go from CAD to a real aluminum part you can actually hold.

The team

George Mason University · Research

Helping robots
see more clearly.

At GMU, I worked on combining visible and thermal camera images to help robots detect objects, especially when the lighting isn’t cooperating.

A little more about George Mason University · Research

It started with a low-cost mobile robot that could follow a person, then turned into a closer look at the complications of getting two misaligned camera views to align. A large part of the work was identifying when a correction would make things worse, and leaving it alone.

TJHSST Computer Systems Lab

Keeping everyday
systems running.

I'm one of the student Sysadmins helping run our school’s Linux infrastructure and maintain Ion, the intranet used by 2,000+ students and staff. Some days that’s a new feature; others it’s figuring out why something went down.

A little more about TJHSST Computer Systems Lab

I work on distributed storage, review production code, run system and dependency upgrades, and build fun features like Bus Game and Ion Wrapped. It’s a fully student-run environment, so we get to learn by taking care of systems that people actually depend on.

Computer Systems Lab

SPARK

A free, open-source communication app I co-built for individuals with speech and language challenges. Deployed on web with iOS and Android pending, and tested by 100+ users.

HackTJ

I lead the technology subteam for our student-run hackathon. My work primarily includes maintaining the website and judging platform, sponsorship coordination, and day-of operations.

NEXT Robotics

I helped pilot GMU’s mechatronics curriculum with a six-person team building three field robots. My work included a long-range radio control system, systems integration, and comprehensive feedback to improve the course.

Away from the workbench

I’ve been involved with FIRST robotics since second grade, and now I love to help younger students get started, whether in the form of mentoring FTC teams or representing my FRC team and FIRST at STEM outreach events.

Outside of that, I love watching Formula 1, traveling, taking half-decent photos, and trying new foods.
